Redness, pimples and flaking of the skin around the mouth may be a sign of perioral dermatitis (POD). We think that the wrong kind of cosmetics or, for example, toothpaste can cause symptoms of perioral dermatitis. That is why it is important to treat the skin suffering from perioral dermatitis as gently as possible. Read Moi Forest's tips for treating irritated skin around the mouth.
Perioral dermatitis is a rash around the mouth that has increased significantly in recent years and occurs especially in women aged 15-45. This rash appears around the mouth, but it can also appear in the outer corners of the eyes or the bridge of the nose. Usually the skin turns red and small pimples appear. Eczema around the mouth is caused by similar factors as rosacea, and it can be aggravated by, for example, the effect of UV radiation, stimulating foods or temperature fluctuations, just like rosacea.
Both rashes around the mouth and rosacea are caused by hormonal factors and imbalances in the nervous system and intestines. Eczema around the mouth has been thought to be caused by, for example, cortisone creams, cosmetics or toothpastes, but they can only trigger the symptoms. The actual mechanism of the disease is not fully known. Some studies have noticed that the inflammatory state of the skin in eczema around the mouth, as well as in rosacea, is associated with a strong reaction of the skin's immune receptors to the presence of certain microbes. These microbes include the Candida albicans yeast, Fusobacteria and the Bacillus oleronius bacteria carried by the tallow mite. Usually these microbes do not cause skin problems, but when the body's microbiome and immune system are out of balance, the skin may start to show symptoms in the form of rosacea or rash around the mouth.
"I use it as a night cream and it works incredibly well for irritated skin, irritation caused by the mask and POD pimples."
